MSD Families,
With a round of winter weather on the horizon, we want to remind our MSD family of how we approach decisions related to school schedules during inclement weather.
At present, we are closely monitoring weather forecasts and conditions across our district. As storms move through the area, and again after they pass, our crews carefully monitor road conditions to determine whether travel is safe for buses, student drivers, and staff. Because the Marion School District spans a large geographic area with a wide variety of highways, city streets, and rural roads, conditions can vary significantly from one part of the district to another. While travel may be safe in some areas, it may be hazardous in others.
Any decision to close schools, dismiss early, or start late is made with the highest regard for the safety of our students and staff. When a decision is made, families will be notified as quickly as possible through robocalls, text messages, Facebook, and notifications on WMC, WREG, and ABC24. We recognize that any changes to the school schedule can impact family plans, and we always strive to communicate decisions as promptly as possible. Because weather conditions can change rapidly, we encourage families to have contingency plans in place should adjustments to the school schedule become necessary.
Because the Marion School District uses an alternate academic calendar, we are able to miss a number of school days without needing to make them up. However, if makeup days become necessary, the following dates have been designated and would be used in order, if possible: February 13, February 12, May 22, and April 6.
