Thank you, Monty and Valerie Hill! 🎶❤️💙

The Marion School District would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Monty and Valerie Hill for their leadership, dedication, and impact on the Patriot Pride Band. Since arriving in 2020, they set out to elevate Marion’s band program to one of the best in the state -- and they delivered.

During their time at Marion, the Hills helped grow the program from fewer than 150 students to nearly 400, earning 15 ASBOA Sweepstakes Awards, 10 grand championships, and countless All-Region and All-State honors, among many other honors and recognitions.

As Monty takes on a new role as Director of Bands at Henderson State University and Valerie begins a well-earned retirement, we wish them both nothing but the best. Their legacy of excellence and pride will continue at Marion for years to come.

Third graders at Marion Math, Science & Technology Magnet took a bite out of science on Thursday as they participated in an exciting hands-on learning project -- dissecting dogfish sharks. Assisted by students from Marion High School and parent volunteers, the younger students explored shark anatomy up close, applying scientific principles they’ve been learning throughout the year. As they examined the internal organs of the sharks, students made real-world connections to their lessons on marine biology. The dissection allowed them to better understand how sharks function as predators in the ocean ecosystem. Students have until October 1 to complete required vaccinations, and the Marion School District is urging families to complete the required immunizations or risk not being able to attend school. Vaccinations can be completed at many local doctor’s offices and medical centers, but one of the easiest ways for students to get their vaccinations is via the Marion School-Based Health Clinic, located inside Marion High School. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All forms of insurance are accepted. In addition to vaccinations, the clinic can do bloodwork, labs, preventive care, and almost everything except X-rays, which are referred elsewhere. The clinic also does physicals for Marion athletes and offers mental health therapy for students and staff. Any student can get treatment at the clinic by getting a signed consent form from their parent For more information, families can contact their student’s campus nurse. The School-Based Health Clinic can be reached at 870-739-5136. For more, follow the link below. https://www.msd3.org/article/1772504
