Did you know that Arkansas ranks 4th in the nation in soybean usage? Animal agriculture is the largest consumer of soybeans, consuming some 1.75 million tons of soybean meal in 2014, and accounting for $15.98 billion to the state’s economy and some 86,072 jobs. MJHS Family and Consumer Science students created homemade hibachi fried rice and yum yum sauce this week! Mrs. West was chosen to represent Marion Junior High School in the Soybean in the Kitchen - Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board Challenge through Farm Bureau, and the students were able to use their kitchen math, knife skills, and communication, as well as gain their first freshman cooking experience as a team. Students will use their recipe measurements and math to create a personal finance portfolio that focuses on the structured budget for the modern family. To learn more about Soybeans in the Kitchen, visit https://www.themiraclebean.com/. Stay tuned to see how well their finances pan out!
